This has been a really busy and eventful weekend for us...full of research!
Most importantly, my Nils has landed himself back into research full time! After 5 years of projects here...and projects there and up and down and in and out (which has been a dizzy ride, mind) he will tomorrow begin back at the University Hospital...engaged in full time research! Animals, medicine, biology and all sorts...which is, after all, his field of work.
Times have been tough...his field is full of competition and new kids on the block. It's not easy for the middle-aged, experienced researchers in a world when everything changes every 5 mintues.
Never-mind! He hung in there...we stood together and well...you guessed it, we celebrated! It is amazingly rewarding for him and I couldn't be happier!
I did my own research this weekend trying to figure out what type of yarn that I want to use for the pattern that I shared last time. It is tricky...we do not have the yarn that the pattern calls for here in Norway and I must find a substitute.
OH! How I wish we had Debbie Bliss yarn here! I did find one shop in Oslo that has some types of it...so I will inquire...but I want so many of her varieties and colors! I guess I will have to think of some excuse to pop over to London in the near future.
I didn't decide on anything yet...wanted to come home and have a little think about the gauge of the pattern again etc. etc.
I have my lovely flower pillow project now going on as well...so I've something to work on in the mean time.
The rest of our weekend was spent finishing up Nikolas' research project on the Aztecs. We have been engaged in his Unit of Inquiry project now for about a week...and it was time to pull it all together and finish up for turning in tomorrow.
He has enjoyed this project...his work was centered around the tools and weapons that the Aztec's created and used. In the picture above, he is painting and has stained one of the most important of their tools. His Pappa of course cut the pattern out for him in wood...he did the sanding and all the rest.
He had to, of course, find pictures and write down information and we spent a lot of time talking to him about how people and civilizations change...which was the big idea of his unit.
I think he has the general idea...but it is a big topic for such a small boy after all.
He enjoyed learning about the Aztecs and is very excited to take his project to school tomorrow!
Here he is with his shield poster of information and the most important tool/weapon of the Aztecs...not pictured is the bow and arrow that he and his Pappa made together! Hope I will get a picture of that too, but not sure.
He'll be 8 years old on Friday! My boy has grown so much! This will be a week full of reflection, I am sure!
